The latest improvements to the eBird website deliver personalized content and fresh features for every region in the world. Upgraded Explore Region pages deliver all the recent birding activity you desire, plus NEW sections highlighting eBirding This Month and Year, feeds of public Trip Reports for every region, and locally-relevant information curated by regional partner networks.
Visit eBird Explore and search a region to get started. The New Zealand Bird Atlas is still running until the end of May 2024, so that is still the key portal we recommend utilising for your bird observations, particularly to help fill in the gaps on the Atlas Effort Map. Once the Atlas project ends, we recommend utilising the New Zealand eBird page from 1st June 2024 onwards for all your NZ birding needs!
NEW FEATURES
eBirding This Month and Year
The new eBirding This Month / eBirding This Year provides up-to-date eBirding stats for all regions and eBird Hotspot. This section is constantly updating with the newest species added, and for all counties, states, provinces, and countries, the top “Community Targets”: species that haven’t yet been reported for this month, but that are most likely to be found based on past years of eBirding in the region. Check back every day for new targets, fresh finds, and to see what you can contribute.
New Community Targets highlight possible species that haven’t been reported yet this month. These are the species to look out for while birding, or even make special efforts to find before the month runs out.
Explore Public Trip Reports
You asked and we delivered. Finally, a way to view other people’s eBird Trip Reports! Regional Explore pages now display the 10 most recent public eBird Trip Reports within that region. To see your Trip Report featured here, make sure to set the visibility of your Trip Report to “Public”.
Connect with Regional Teams
eBird is made possible by the incredible efforts of hundreds of thousands of contributing eBirders, and thousands of volunteers, regional coordinators, and organizations worldwide. These eBird Region Page updates now highlight the groups that work together in a region to coordinate eBird. You’ll automatically see regional content whenever you explore pages in areas with active partner networks—check out recent news from Vermont, learn about the teams coordinating eBird in India, or read the latest birding stories in Colombia.
If you’ve been used to contributing to “eBird Portals”, life just got easier! When using eBird Mobile, continue doing what you’ve always done. IMPORTANT! Please continue to use the NZ Atlas eBird portal on your device and online until the 1st June 2024. From the 1st June 2024, all of your data, including past checklists, are contributed to the appropriate regional portals automatically (like this checklist in Taiwan). You can switch the portal on your device to New Zealand eBird, and continue to use eBird online as normal.
Content Tailored to Your Location
The eBird website now detects and customizes your experience based on your current location, delivering personal stats and local news and resources. eBird will also try to automatically display content in your preferred language. Visit your eBird Preferences to set your region and language preferences.
